The following ink sketches were done to decorate a series of commemorative envelopes that I posted on our trip to Viet Nam.
They work better in context. Click on each sketch to see it on an actual commemorative envelope, or event cover, as they're called.
My favorites are the two ships, which commemorate laying wreaths in the Gulf of Tonkin for shipmates lost in the Vietnam war, and the "Quiet Mind, Open heart", which commemorates burning incense on the northern coast of Vietnam to ask the spirits of all who suffered in the war to be at peace now. (Some Vietnamese believe that butterflies are the souls of the departed.)
