The Champa Ruins at My Son were our first stop in the central area. These
pre-Vietnamese ruins suffered heavily during the war and, to be
candid, I was about half prepared to "get my back up" over
descriptions of American responsibility for the bombing without any mention of
North Vietnamese responsibility for using the area as an infiltration route.
Acutally, we were guided through the ruins by our own guide
(and soon to be dear friend) Thuy and her matter of fact, blameless
descriptions of the wartime loss was my first clue to what an insightful,
graceful human she is.
