On a day trip to My Tho in the Mekong Delta, we took a private tour boat across
a Mekong River branch and around Tan Long ("Dragon Island") to Thoi
Son ("Unicorn Island"). We tasted local fruit, listened to traditional
music, sampled freshly-made coconut candy and wine, rode a small row boat
through the canals, rode a cart through a village, and had a wonderful seafood
dinner overlooking a canal. We'd hoped that cart would be horse-drawn,
but the tour company's subcontracted horse was booked up for Tet
celebrations, so we had to settle for a motorized cart.
At the next table at lunch was a couple from Boston who have family (her sister)
at Kiawah. Small world! We gave them our contact info and hope
they'll call when they visit the Charleston area.
